Designed for the P.O.S.T. certified general instructor, this training includes control and restraint techniques, handgun retention and disarming skills, handcuffing and searching, active counter measure, and self defense techniques against common attacks.

Advanced Report Writing

Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. Firearms Instructor Course



Sep 27,2021 – Oct 8,2021 Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

The Firearms IT Shoot-In-dates will be announced at a later date; the course supply list will be sent out once shoot-ins have been completed. Each officer/deputy must shoot two GSAC scores of 270 or above (90) out of three courses of fire. Please know that the first 12 to pass are in the class.

This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Dress code is business attire or a departmental issued uniform. All applicants are required to complete an Application for Admittance Packet in order to be considered for this class. This entry level jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Topics include emergency procedures, inmate rights, inmate discipline, medical activities such as first-aid, CPR, inmate medical, inmate/cell searches, fingerprinting, self defense, and inmate supervision. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.
