Designed for the P.O.S.T. certified general instructor, this training includes control and restraint techniques, handgun retention and disarming skills, handcuffing and searching, active counter measure, and self defense techniques against common attacks.

This introductory course is the first of three required for P.O.S.T. Supervisory Certification and is intended for first line supervisors, but is also suitable for public safety employees who demonstrate supervisory potential prior to promotion. Topics include supervisory roles and responsibilities, managing information, planning, communication, health and wellness, ethics, civil liability, and organization.

Dress Code: Students are expected to wear department-issued Class A uniforms or business attire to this course. Shorts, jeans and t-shirts are prohibited.

This course is designed to assist departments in predicting the competence of a recruit before the probationary period ends. It combines on-the-job instruction with objective evaluation and documentation which allows students of this program to use the selection process within their own departments.

A brief review of composition will be given through practical examinations and self scoring quizzes. This will help the officer identify areas needing improvement (grammar, spelling, punctuation, ect.) Various types and uses of police reports will be covered with emphasis on preparing effective reports for successful prosecution. The privacy and security for criminal history records information will also be taught in this course. This course is required for the P.O.S.T Advanced Certification.

This course is designed for peace officers responsible for enforcing DUI laws. This course introduces the participant to the National Highway Traffic Administration's recommended standardized field sobriety testing process. Topics will include the proper procedure for administering the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand examinations.

Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.

Topics include a review of the latest U.S. Supreme Court, federal, and state court rulings, the latest legal guidelines for search and seizure, laws of arrest, elements of a crime, and police liability in the use of force.

Based on recognized first responder guidelines, this course provides training in the skills needed to provide the first patient contact in the emergency medical services system. Fire fighters, police officers and other emergency services personnel are often the first on the scene of emergency calls and have a responsibility to know what to do. Through instruction in patient assessment, patient care, legal aspects, terminology, diagnostic signs, life threatening emergencies and many other topics, the First Responder will be better prepared to provide better care for the patient.

Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Dress code is business attire or a departmental issued uniform. All applicants are required to complete an Application for Admittance Packet in order to be considered for this class. This course is designed to teach the officer how to recognize and record evidence and preserve the crime scene. Topics of discussion include crime scene protection, sketching/photographing, note taking/report writing, lab analysis, crime scene search, courtroom testimony, collection of evidence, chain of custody, and rules of evidence.

This course is required for Advanced Certification.

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

The Firearms IT Shoot-In-dates will be announced at a later date; the course supply list will be sent out once shoot-ins have been completed. Each officer/deputy must shoot two GSAC scores of 270 or above (90) out of three courses of fire. Please know that the first 12 to pass are in the class.
