Expandable Baton

This is a 8 hour hands on certification class on the trained operational use of an expandable tactical baton.

We will focus on the following:

Firearms Instructor Course

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

The Firearms IT Shoot-In-dates will be announced at a later date; the course supply list will be sent out once shoot-ins have been completed.

Prerequisite: Must provide proof of current status for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association or an equivalent agency. This must include adult and pediatric CPR, as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of pre-requisites must be provided on the first day of the class.

Based on recognized first responder guidelines, this course provides training in the skills needed to provide the first patient contact in the emergency medical services system. Fire fighters, police officers and other emergency services personnel are often the first on the scene of emergency calls and have a responsibility to know what to do. Through instruction in patient assessment, patient care, legal aspects, terminology, diagnostic signs, life threatening emergencies and many other topics, the First Responder will be better prepared to provide better care for the patient.

This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Firearms Instructor Course

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

The Firearms IT Shoot-In dates are TBD.

 Each officer/deputy must shoot two GSAC scores of 270 or above (90) out of three courses of fire. Please know that the first 12 to pass are in the class.

Departmental Training Officer

The Departmental Training Officer course is designed for those who have been tasked in their agency with delivering training for their officers as well being tasked with the hiring and training of new personnel. The emphasis is on the instructor recently tasked with the responsibility but will augment the knowledge of the veteran instructor. This course will provide an introduction to working with the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council in order to certify and recertify officers within an agency. The course will also offer instruction on how to determine training needs and how best to deliver that training while remaining within an allotted budget.

This class is approximately 52 hours. 32 of those hours will be dedicated to classroom instruction and the remainder of the class time will be focused on project development, project presentations, and testing.

A project is required for completion of the course. Access to a laptop computer is recommended.

Requirements: Must be a POST General Instructor and assigned to a full time training position or designated as responsible for agency training development. A letter of recommendation must be submitted from a command staff member indicating such. All recommendation letters should be sent in by December 1st via email to Shakeena Farris at shakeena.farris@cobbcounty.org.

First Responder

Prerequisite: Must provide proof of current status for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association or an equivalent agency. This must include adult and pediatric CPR, as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Must possess a valid driver's license. Based on recognized first responder guidelines, this course provides training in the skills needed to provide the first patient contact in the emergency medical services system. Fire fighters, police officers and other emergency services personnel are often the first on the scene of emergency calls and have a responsibility to know what to do. Through instruction in patient assessment, patient care, legal aspects, terminology, diagnostic signs, life threatening emergencies and many other topics, the First Responder will be better prepared to provide better care for the patient.
