This entry level jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Topics include emergency procedures, inmate rights, inmate discipline, medical activities such as first-aid, CPR, inmate medical, inmate/cell searches, fingerprinting, self defense, and inmate supervision. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.

Criminal Procedure

This course provides training for law enforcement officers in the areas of crimes and offenses outlined in Title 16, O.C.G.A. and criminal procedure set forth in Title 17, O.C.G.A. Topics include a review of the latest U.S. Supreme Court, federal, and state court rulings, the latest legal guidelines for search and seizure, laws of arrest, elements of a crime, and police liability in the use of force.

Expandable Baton



Jun 2,2018 – Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
This is a 8 hour hands on certification class on the trained operational use of an expandable tactical baton.

We will focus on the following:

  1. Portation (Carrying)
  2. Presentation (Drawing)
  3. Striking techniques
  4. Mechanical function
  5.  Maintenance

The student will have to pass a written exam with a minimum score of 80%.  The student will also demonstrate striking techniques during a Redman drill.

This course is an introductory training program which will help prepare the student for other courses offered.

First Responder



Jun 4,2018 – Jun 8,2018 Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Prerequisite: Must provide proof of current status for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association or an equivalent agency. This must include adult and pediatric CPR, as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of pre-requisites must be provided on the first day of the class.

Based on recognized first responder guidelines, this course provides training in the skills needed to provide the first patient contact in the emergency medical services system. Fire fighters, police officers and other emergency services personnel are often the first on the scene of emergency calls and have a responsibility to know what to do. Through instruction in patient assessment, patient care, legal aspects, terminology, diagnostic signs, life threatening emergencies and many other topics, the First Responder will be better prepared to provide better care for the patient.

A variety of missing person situations will be discussed, such as missing children, elderly persons, at-risk adults, and abductions. Advanced Report Writing

A brief review of composition will be given through practical examinations and self scoring quizzes. This will help the officer identify areas needing improvement (grammar, spelling, punctuation, ect.) Various types and uses of police reports will be covered with emphasis on preparing effective reports for successful prosecution. The privacy and security for criminal history records information will also be taught in this course. This course is required for the P.O.S.T Advanced Certification.

POST Instructor Training Course

This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Dress code is business attire or a departmental issued uniform. All applicants are required to complete an Application for Admittance Packet in order to be considered for this class. POST Instructor Training Course

This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Firearms Instructor Course

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

The Firearms IT Shoot-In dates are TBD.

 Each officer/deputy must shoot two GSAC scores of 270 or above (90) out of three courses of fire. Please know that the first 12 to pass are in the class.

Prerequisite: Must provide proof of current status for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association or an equivalent agency. This must include adult and pediatric CPR, as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of pre-requisites must be provided on the first day of the class.

Based on recognized first responder guidelines, this course provides training in the skills needed to provide the first patient contact in the emergency medical services system. Fire fighters, police officers and other emergency services personnel are often the first on the scene of emergency calls and have a responsibility to know what to do. Through instruction in patient assessment, patient care, legal aspects, terminology, diagnostic signs, life threatening emergencies and many other topics, the First Responder will be better prepared to provide better care for the patient.

This course will teach students how to design presentations that captivate audiences and create a memorable experience for the viewer. PowerPoint slides don’t have to be dull, boring, or tedious.  Students will learn how to re-imagine the way a PowerPoint presentation should look, and to identify better ways to use slides to communicate with students, peers, and the public.
