There is NO CHARGE for agencies sending students through the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course or the Basic Jail Officer Course regardless of subscriber status.

Missing Persons



Aug 1,2017 – Aug 2,2017 Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
A variety of missing person situations will be discussed, such as missing children, elderly persons, at-risk adults, and abductions. The appropriate law enforcement responses will be explored, as well as resources that are available to law enforcement. Investigative techniques and case studies will be reviewed for student understanding, and techniques to handle high-profile cases in the media will also be discussed.

POST Instructor Training Course

This course is designed for the public safety officer who instructs in performance oriented training and is responsible for lesson plan development. Topics range from instructor liability and lesson plan design, to testing and evaluation of learning. During the course, each student writes an original lesson plan on an approved public safety topic and develops the presentation skills necessary to deliver that lesson. Dress code is business attire or a departmental issued uniform. All applicants are required to complete an Application for Admittance Packet in order to be considered for this class. This course is designed to train public safety officers to approach people using non-escalatory techniques in order to gain voluntary compliance. Some of the topics covered are officer safety, professionalism, communication, the types of people, cultures, the five-step hard style, the 8-step tactical traffic stop/meet & greet, and proxemics. All of these topics and more will be covered while ensuring that officer safety is top priority with the goal of generating voluntary compliance. These topics and more will be covered over a two day (16 hour) period and will include classroom lecture, videos, classroom discussion, and scenarios.

Departmental Training Officer

The Departmental Training Officer course is designed for those who have been tasked in their agency with delivering training to their officers as well as being tasked with the hiring and training of new personnel. This course will provide an introduction to working with the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council in order to certify and recertify officers within an agency. The course will also offer instruction on how to determine training needs and how to best deliver that training while remaining within an allotted budget.

A project is required for completion of the course. Access to a laptop computer is also recommended.

This entry level jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Topics include emergency procedures, inmate rights, inmate discipline, medical activities such as first-aid, CPR, inmate medical, inmate/cell searches, fingerprinting, self defense, and inmate supervision. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.

Firearms Instructor Course



Oct 16,2017 – Oct 27,2017 Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Students will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, night firing, semi-automatic pistols, and shotguns.

 

We will host two (2) shoot-in dates for this class, which will be announced at a later date. The first 12 students who receive qualifying scores will be registered for the class and an email confirming their seat in the course will be sent shortly after the shoot-in.

Basic Jail Officer Training Course

This entry level jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Topics include emergency procedures, inmate rights, inmate discipline, medical activities such as first-aid, CPR, inmate medical, inmate/cell searches, fingerprinting, self defense, and inmate supervision. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.
